Overview

Recurrent tonsillitis is defined as multiple episodes of tonsillitis within a year. The tonsils become repeatedly infected and inflamed, causing significant disruption to daily life and overall health.

Symptoms and Causes

Symptoms

  • Severe sore throat
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Fever and chills
  • Swollen, red tonsils with white patches
  • Swollen lymph nodes in neck
  • Bad breath
  • Ear pain

Causes

  • Viral infections (most common)
  • Bacterial infections (Streptococcus)
  • Compromised immune system
  • Exposure to pathogens in crowded environments

Diagnosis and Investigations

Diagnosis involves physical examination and may include throat swabs.
